India makes friends in Ipswich

WHILE Ipswich is growing at a rapid rate, it has some time before it catches up to the about six million-plus population of our Indian sister city Hyderabad. But that’s not to say our humble 170,000-strong city can’t be a worthwhile contributor to the sister city relationship. A delegation of officials from Hyderabad City – including Mayor Karthika Reddy Banda – visited Ipswich yesterday, keen to talk up relations between the two cities.

Education was a big talking point at the mayoral reception put on for the visiting delegation at the Brookwater Golf Club, as well as exchanges between the two city’s educational institutions.

Mayor Banda said it was her first visit to the city, after having signed up to the sister city agreement, which includes Brisbane, only last year.

“This is the first time we have signed with two cities,” she said.

“It is a nice chance to exchange our ideas.”

Mayor Banda said that despite the differences – “Hyderabad has a thickly populated area, but Ispwich is a smaller population area” – there was still a great deal to learn from Ipswich and its development management.

“We have a nice chance to go through these activities and management,” she said.

Mayor Paul Pisasale said the sister city agreement with the large Indian city had put Ipswich on the world map.

“It’s about making sure we understand what makes a city grow. What makes a city grow is sharing technology, sharing a vision and the culture,” Cr Pisasale. “We can learn a lot from each other.”

Cr Pisasale said future student exchanges between to the two cities would further strengthen their ties.

Mayor Banda and her delegation are in Australia to attend the 2011 Asia Cities Summit which begins in Brisbane today.

The summit will feature government officials from around the world along with guest speakers Sir Richard Branson and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Members of the delegation conducted a tour of Springfield yesterday afternoon.

Hyderabad Facts

Hyderabad is the capital city of Andhara Pradesh and one of India’s fastest-growing cities. It is also one of the important Information Technology cities of India. The sister city agreement between Hyderabad, Ipswich and Brisbane is a world first.

Hyderabad Brisbane Ipswich – Tri-City Business Promotion Office

A sister city relationship is a broad-based, officially approved, long-term co-operative agreement between cities/towns in geographically & politically distinct areas to promote cultural & commercial ties. The three cities of Hyderabad, Brisbane and Ipswich have joined hands by signing the Tri-Sister City Partnership to promote business and cultural ties.

Dhanush InfoTech has made significant contribution in this process to strengthen business opportunities and promote mutual business strengths from both India and Australia. As part of this initiative, Dhanush has sponsored a Tri-City Business Promotion Office at Hyderabad and Ipswich, which will facilitate trade partnerships for easier startups in both countries. The Mayors of Brisbane and Ipswich along with Trade Commissioner Queensland to South Asia inaugurated the Tri-City Business Promotion Office, at Lakshmi Building, Begumpet on October 6, 2010.

Tri-Sister City Agreement Signing between Hyderabad, Brisbane and Ipswich

To have an official sign-off on the Tri-Sister City Partnership, the Mayoral delegation from Brisbane and Ipswich, visited Hyderabad from 4 th to 6 th October, 2010. Mayor of Ipswich, Cr. Paul Pisasale and Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Cr. Campbell Newman arrived on the above dates with their team of delegates and trade representatives.

The Tri-Sister City agreement was signed on the evening of 5 th October, at Hotel Taj Krishna, in the presence of GHMC Mayor, Mrs. Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy, and the Australian Mayors.

Dhanush has been instrumental in the process of establishing Tri-Sister City relationship between Hyderabad, Brisbane and Ipswich to strengthen trade opportunities between India and Australia to get the benefits out of the mutual business strengths on both the sides. Our continued perseverance and zeal to bring the cause to realize has leveraged the Tri-City relationship to the sign-off stage. With critical contribution towards this, City Councils of Brisbane and Ipswich have chosen Dhanush representatives as an ambassador to promote trade between the three cities.

Dhanush Chooses Queensland as Asia Pacific headquarters

The Asia Pacific arm of international software services firm, Dhanush InfoTech will call Queensland home, investing $1.5 million in a state of the art facility at Springfield.

Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development Andrew Fraser said apart from bringing the international ICT industry to Queensland, the Indian firm’s Springfield premises would create more than 200 local jobs during its first few years of operation.

“This is a coup for Springfield which has been positioning itself as one of Queensland’s hi tech hubs of the future,” Mr. Fraser said.

Dhanush plans to become one of the largest information and communication technology (ICT) employers in the region, and its global reach will be a draw card for other international firms looking to grow their market in the Asia Pacific. It’s becoming increasingly clear that successful overseas firms consider Queensland to be a viable next step when expanding their international operations.

Dhanush’s presence in Springfield presents a major opportunity to increase the international exposure of Queensland’s emerging local ICT industry. The firm received a grant from the Queensland Investment and Incentive Scheme, a State Government program aimed at attracting new industry to Queensland, to assist in establishing their Springfield headquarters.

Dhanush Chairman DSN Murthy said a number of factors influenced the firm’s final decision to base its Asia Pacific operations in Springfield. “Queensland is recognized as a leader in IT security and games development, and is a significant provider of software to asset intensive industries,” Mr. Murthy said. “The positive business climate in the region, the opportunity for ongoing business partnerships here and the support from the State Government all contributed to the business case for choosing Springfield.”

Dhanush Director of Operations, Mr. Lalit Gupta said the company had set high goals for its first few years of operation. “Over the next few years we anticipate our staff numbers at Springfield Central to grow substantially to support operations in the Australian, New Zealand and Asia Pacific regions,” he said. “If there’s one place that we can reach these milestones, it’s Queensland.”

Mr. Fraser said that the company would also work with local universities and training institutions to establish its own technology academy.

Dhanush joins a growing list of major ICT firms associated with Queensland, such as IBM, Oracle, Red Hat, SAP, Sun Microsystems, Mincom and Technology One.
